** OUR APOLOGIES **
4th December 2007 - the
website team would like to apologise for the limited service from the website
over the last six months. This has been due to,
amongst other things, a couple of family bereavements that have hit them very
hard. Over the next couple of weeks we are hoping to catch up on all the
areas
where we have let things slip. The previous two show results have now been
placed on the website, including the write ups from the May 2007 Open Show.
Sadly, we have a number of deaths to announce, but we hope you will bear with us
and accept our apologies while we try to get things back into shape.
Thanks in advance for your understanding,
Ben
IMPORTANT NOTICE: JUDGES FOR
THE DSBTC MAY 2007 OPEN SHOW
4th April 2007 - Please note
that the judges for the Downlands Open Show in May have been advertised
incorrectly. The correct appointments are:
Caroline Dewar (Euphemia) will be judging
bitches
Mike Whelan will judge dogs
As before, Jamie Mace (Janastaff)
will referee.
Our sincere apologies to all for any
inconvenience that this may cause. The diary and show pages have been
updated and there will be notices in
the dog press to this effect very soon.
Dean Cund's Write Up Uploaded
5th March 2007 - We're pleased
to advise that Dean Cund has sent us his critique of the bitches at last month's
inaugural Championship Show.
These have been added to the show
results page. Many thanks to Dean for completing this. You read
it here first!
Annual General Meeting 2007
5th March 2007 - A slightly
disappointing turn out of only 19 members attended the 2007 AGM of the Downlands
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club.
The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer
presented annual reports. Pat Pritchard was elected as president for a
further two years. Julie Land and
Allison Longhurst stepped down from the
commitee. Coral Muir was elected to the committee and Guida Templeton
co-opted. Judges were chosen
for the championship and open shows in
2009. A rule change was voted upon to facilitate the selecting of judges
for Championship shows starting
from 2010 onward. Membership fees remain
unchanged, and the club auditor was retained.
Judging Seminar To Be Held At
Petersfield Community Centre
28th February 2007 - The
Downlands is proud to announce its 2007 Seminar will take place on 15th April
2007 at Petersfield Community Centre,
starting at 10.00am. For further details, please see our seminar
page.
Annual General Meeting Reminder
28th February 2007 - A
reminder that the 2007 AGM of the Downlands will be held this Sunday, 4th March
at Petersfield Community Centre, starting
at 11.00am.
Inaugural Championship Show
"A Great Success"
18th February 2007 - A record entry assembled at the
Arun Leisure Centre, Bognor Regis for the Downlands Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Club's inaugural
Championship show. Mick Clarke (Boldmore) judged dogs and Dean Cund (Chelmstaff)
judged bitches. At this historic occasion, the very first Challenge
Certificates awarded at a Downlands show went to Baloo's King Louie (dog)
owned by Mr. C. Woods and Duchess Black Beauty (bitch) owned by
Mrs. H. Bullock. Baloo's King Louie was declared Best in Show by referee
Tommy Curd (Knockon) as Mick and Dean were unable to agree.
Other significant awards went to Mr. & Mrs. W. Blacker's Crossguns
Memphis Belle (Best Puppy in Show) and C. & M. Davies Ch. Mimcol
Tasha Yar J.W.
(Best Veteran in Show). As usual, all the results can be found on our show
results page.
Congratulations to all those placed today, and thanks to
all for turning out and making the day a great success. The show
management team reported a good
deal of positive feedback and the few minor criticisms aired will be looked
at. Thanks also go to the committee who worked hard to get the club to
championship
show status, to all those who helped on the day, the Bognor Division of St. John
Ambulance, the staff at the Arun Leisure Centre, the judges and referee, and to
all at the Southern Counties Staffordshire Bull Terrier Society for their
message of support.
The judges's critiques will be added as soon as they
arrive, and hopefully in due course a few pictures of the event.

About Downlands.....
The Downlands Staffordshire Bull
Terrier Club was founded in 1989 and recognised by the UK Kennel Club in
1990.
Operating primarily in the
Southern Coastal Counties of England, our aims are to further the welfare
of the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier as a breed, by organising shows and
other activities to encourage owners and breeders
to maintain the high
standard of the breed in the area covered. In 2004, the hard work of the
committee of The
Downlands Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club was rewarded when the club was
approved by the Kennel Club to hold
Championship Shows, the first of which will be held in 2007.
New members are welcomed, both
nationally and worldwide. For further information please see the
'Memberships' link
